Winter on Anglesey
Quiet Magic, Big Skies & Cosy Escapes
Winter on Anglesey is a bit of a secret… the kind locals whisper about and guests discover and then wonder why they didn’t come sooner. If you prefer your adventures with fewer crowds, a chill in the air, and scenery that never quite wakes up then this is your season.
Snowdonia sits on the horizon wearing its snow‑capped crown, the beaches stretch out peacefully, and the island slows down just enough for you to breathe a little deeper. And yes, winter stays often mean cheaper rates, so whether you’re sneaking away for a short escape or settling in for a long, lazy linger… it’s a win‑win.
Here are some of our favourite winter spots, the ones that stay beautiful even when the temperatures drop.
Newborough Warren & Llanddwyn Island
If winter had a favourite place, it would be Newborough. The Corsican pine forest feels like something out of a fairytale, and the walk through the trees to Llanddwyn Island is pure magic, soft sand, and views that make you question where you are.
Stay nearby at Kite Cottage or The Brackens.
Parys Mountain, Caemes
Winter makes Parys Mountain look even more dramatic, all those rusty reds, burnt oranges, and lunar‑like textures against a cold blue sky. Once one of the world’s busiest copper mines, it’s now a dream for photographers, artists, and anyone who loves a landscape with attitude. Pop into the Copper Kingdom Centre to warm up and dive into the history.
Stay at Bron Wendon or Tamarisk.
Church Island
Small, peaceful, and beautifully atmospheric in any season. Church Island sits quietly within the Menai Straits, home to the 15th‑century St Tysilio’s Church and surrounded by views that feel almost still. It’s a lovely spot for a gentle winter walk, the kind where you tuck your scarf in a little tighter and take your time.
Stay at Penyrorsedd for a cosy base nearby.
Beaumaris Castle
Winter suits Beaumaris Castle the misty mornings, the quiet moat, the echo of footsteps on ancient stone. It’s one of the grandest castles in Wales, even if it was never finished (Scotland distracted everyone, apparently). The symmetry from above is incredible, and the town itself is full of cafés and shops perfect for warming up afterwards. Stay at Number 66 for a stylish Beaumaris base.
Walks, Warm Drinks & Winter Wanders
Anglesey in winter is a walker’s paradise. Coastal paths, forest trails, beach strolls, take your pick. And when you’re done, there are cafés and foodie spots popping up all over the island serving hot chocolate, hearty lunches, and the kind of cakes that make you forget you ever planned to “be good”.
Some of our winter favourites:
• A windswept walk at Aberffraw followed by something warm from the Llys Llewllyn café
• A quiet morning on Red Wharf Bay when the tide is out, a spot of lunch at the Tavern on The Bay or in Benllech.
• A sunset stroll at Rhosneigr (winter skies here are unreal), and cocktails at Sandy Mount House.
• A cosy pub lunch in Menai Bridge at The Vic or Beaumaris, and dinner at The Midland
Winter on Anglesey is beautiful, and full of moments you don’t get in summer empty beaches, dramatic skies, crisp mornings, and the feeling that the island is all yours.
