St Dwynwen’s Day – Spread the Love
Today we celebrate the Welsh ‘Valentine’s Day’. Ynys Llanddwyn is a tidal island off the coast of Anglesey, ruggedly beautiful with views reaching across #Snowdonia and beyond. On the 25th of January every year, people all over Wales celebrate St Dwynwen’s Day, in honour of the Welsh patron saint of lovers.
Ynys Llanddwyn is home to the romantic legend of St Dwynwen – the Welsh patron Saint of lovers, who in the 5th Century retreated here to live in solitude after her lover drank from a potion and turned to ice! The remains of her Church and the well she drank from can still be seen today.
Llanddwyn is a truly iconic landscape location, it’s not just the gorgeous setting that makes this place so alluring. There’s also a deep sense of history and mystery that envelops the island. It’s not surprising then, that Landscape Artist of the Year 2022 contestant, Anna Rotheisen fell in love with his island and found it a source of inspiration.
Anna is a Hampshire-based artist with a particular interest in the narrative created by people occupying a landscape. She does commission-based work alongside her own artwork. A highlight from last year was being selected to be a contestant on Landscape Artist of the Year, 2023, Series 8. Her submission piece was of a train station on a narrow horizontal canvas.
Her style is free and not overly finished – allowing the viewer to fill in the gaps. She likes to capture the atmosphere of a place and finds beauty in unusual places.
Anna visits #Anglesey every year to spend time with her sister, who’s based in Newborough, so just a hop, skip and a jump from Llanddwyn Island.
Anna adds ‘The Island is a perfect place to draw inspiration from and sit for hours and sketch. The peace and tranquillity that Anglesey offers is unrivalled’.

1- The promoter is: Anglesey Holiday Lettings Ltd whose registered office is at The Shop, Llys Llewlyn, Aberffraw, LL63 5AQ
2- The competition is open to residents of the United Kingdom aged 18 years or over except employees of Anglesey Holiday Lettings and their close relatives and anyone otherwise connected with the organisation or judging of the competition.
3- There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
4- By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
5- By entering and sharing photos, you give consent to Anglesey Holiday Lettings to use them for marketing promotions and posts.
6- Only one entry will be accepted per channel, therefore an individual may enter up to 3 times.
7- Closing date for entry will be midnight, Feb 14th 2023. After this date no further entries to the competition will be permitted.
8- No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.

Any changes to the competition will be notified to entrants as soon as possible by the promoter.
10- The promoter is not responsible for inaccurate prize details supplied to any entrant by any third party connected with this competition.
11- The prize is as follows: a signed, limited edition fine art giclee print of Llanddwyn Lighthouse, mounted to 29 x 29cm, with a certificate of authenticity by Landscape Artist of the Year 2023 Contestant , Anna Rotheisen. The prize is as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability, and we reserve the right to substitute any prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.
12- Staff will select their favourite image and names will be written down, put in a hat and the winner picked.
13- The winner will be notified by email and/or DM on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram within 28 days of the closing date. The winner will only ever be contacted by Anglesey Holiday Lettings. If the winner cannot be contacted or do not claim the prize within 14 days of notification, we reserve the right to withdraw the prize from the winner and pick a replacement winner.
14- The promoter’s decision in respect of all matters to do with the competition will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
15- By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
16- The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by UK law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England.
17- The winner agrees to the use of his/her name and image in any publicity material, as well as their entry.
