Ride the Wind in Rhosneigr
The Best Spots, Events & Stays
Rhosneigr might not be the go-to spot for big traditional surf, especially with Hells Mouth just over on the Llŷn Peninsula, but when it comes to wind-driven watersports, this place is in a league of its own.
From kitesurfing and windsurfing to paddleboarding, dinghy racing, and the ever growing thrill of wing foiling, Rhosneigr has become a haven for those who love to play on the water. Its two award-winning beaches, Traeth Crigyll and Broad Beach, offer something for everyone, whether you’re getting on a board for the first time or chasing the next adrenaline hit.

One of the best things about Rhosneigr is how accessible the watersports scene is. You’ll find well-loved local surf schools and hire shops like Funsport and Gecko, where you can rent everything from wetsuits to wing foils, or take lessons tailored to your level. No gear? No problem. No clue? No worries.. You’ll be welcomed in with sandy feet and wind-swept hair.
And for those wanting to be part of something big, September in Rhosneigr means one thing: The Wave Classic.
Every year, Rhosneigr hosts one of the UK’s premier windsurfing events as part of the British Wavesailing Association (BWA) tour. This year, the event runs from 12–14 September, with backup dates of 19–21 September to guarantee the best wind and wave conditions. The event draws competitors from across the UK in Pro, Amateur, Masters, and Junior fleets. There’s also a youth surf camp (ages 8–17), where future wave riders can learn from the best in the business.
Whether you’re on the water or watching from the beach, it’s an unforgettable weekend.
