Christmas and New Year on Anglesey
A Winter Escape by the Sea
We believe winter on the island has its own magic. This isn’t the season for soft comforts and city sparkle, it’s about bracing winds, wild seas, and traditions that make you feel alive.
Anglesey’s history is rooted in strength, shaped by the generations of islanders who have embraced the elements. Today, we carry that same spirit. Guests who join us at Christmas and New Year discover an island that is bold, beautiful, and bracing, a place where the weather makes you feel part of something real.
Imagine stepping out onto Llanddwyn Beach in December, the waves crashing, the sky dramatic, the air sharp enough to wake every sense. Wrap up warm, walk the coast, breathe it in.
And when the day is done, return to one of our cosy cottages. A log burner crackling, festive decorations glowing, mulled wine in hand. Our properties are welcoming and warm, the perfect reward after embracing the wild beauty outside.

New Year’s Eve here isn’t about crowds or fireworks, it’s about atmosphere. A cheerful pub in Beaumaris or Rhosneigr, tapas at The Midland, mulled wine at Sandy Mount House. Real food, real people, real warmth. Not everything is open, but what is open is worth it. Welcoming pubs, independent restaurants, and locals who make you feel part of the island. *Just phone ahead to book, then settle in and enjoy.
Then comes New Year’s Day. Some locals plunge into the sea, a tradition as bracing as it sounds. Others take windswept walks along Red Wharf Bay or Aberffraw. Either way, it’s about starting the year with a strength, a clarity, and a smile that says: we did it!
Sea Swimming on Anglesey
Anglesey is full of incredible swim spots, from sheltered coves to adventurous bays. Here are our top spots to try
- Trearddur Bay A mix of sheltered sandy beaches, with Porth Diana for a smaller dip or the main beach for a longer swim. Nearby Rhoscolyn’s Porth Wen is a stunning, secluded option.
- Cable Bay (Porth Trecastell) A family favourite with calm, shallow waters and a soft sandy entry.
- Porth Dynion (Swimmers Cove) A hidden gem reached via the coastal path, perfect for those who like a little adventure.
Remember Safety First: Sea swimming in winter is exhilarating but demands respect!!
So, always check tide times and weather before you go, and let someone know your plans. Swim with a friend, if possible, wear a bright cap or/and float, and carry a waterproof communication device.
If you get into difficulty, dial 999 and ask for the coastguard. And don’t forget the best bit… warm clothes, a hot drink, and a slice of cake afterwards.
We still have a handful of cosy, inviting properties available for Christmas and New Year. Whether you’re after a romantic hideaway, a family‑friendly cottage, or a base to explore the island’s festive charm, we’d love to welcome you.

Anglesey in winter is about atmosphere, connection, and courage. We’d love for you to be part of it, brace the sea, feel the chill, share the stories, and savour the warmth of our cottages.
Guest Testimonial
‘Our New Year stay near Rhosneigr was unforgettable, from Plas Newydd with the kids, tapas in Beaumaris, to mulled wine at Sandy Mount House. The cosy, beautifully decorated cottage was the perfect base. We’ll be back next Christmas! The Hughes Family, Manchester
