We’ve put together a few ideas for top outdoor activities in North Wales. We’re happy to share more things to do when you book your amazing Sea to Summit holiday.
Walk the Anglesey coastal path with its stunning mountain backdrop
Landscapes do not come much prettier or more dramatic than the Anglesey Coastal Path Walk. When you consider that 95% of the coastal path is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, then you’ll understand why so many people feel strongly emotional when walking this route.
It is 130 miles of rich and diverse landscapes. Marvel at the pink, yellow, lavender and blue coastal flowers. Catch your breath as you spot porpoises, seals and gannets. Walk through woodlands, sand dunes and picturesque coves while drinking in incredible views over Snowdonia and the Wicklow Mountains across the Irish Sea.
You can walk the whole route or it has been split into 12 sections, so you can pick the one that appeals the most – or ask us which one to walk first.
Some of the many treasured highlights of the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path walk are:
- Holyhead Mountain, which is the highest point on Anglesey
- South Stack lighthouse (you can read more about this beauty later)
- Menai Suspension bridge (we mention this further on too)
- Llanddwyn Island is a hidden gem that has to be seen to be appreciated
- Cemlyn nature reserve is admired for its superb range of wildlife and scenic delights
- Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch – a Welsh village with the longest place name in Britain.
Visit Wales’ adventure capital, Snowdonia national park
Home to the highest peak and largest natural lake in Wales, Snowdonia is a unique spot where you can conquer many challenges including some of the most exciting adventures in the world. Favourite activities include:
- Tackling part of the gruelling 3 Peaks Challenge by climbing to the summit of Mount Snowdon. At 3.560 feet, it’s the highest mountain in England and Wales
- Feeling the rush of the world’s fastest zip wire at Zip World
- Cycling the Ffordd Brailsford Way, part of the previous Tour of Britain stages
- Being in awe of the dramatic slate landscape that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- Kayaking on Llyn Padarn lake
There are dozens of attractions waiting for you in the glorious Snowdonia national park.
Feel the sand between your toes on Anglesey beaches
Anglesey island is a haven for water sports lovers and beach lovers alike. Whether you want to relax on the beach with the sound of lapping waves and seagulls overhead or venture into the water, you can experience it all at Anglesey.
You could be tempted to:
- Sunbathe or paddle in the crystal-clear blue waters at Benllech Beach
- Dive for shipwrecks and other hidden treasures around Moelfre or Porth Dafarch among many other great diving spots
- Snorkel or dive among the varied fish and marine life such as seals, spider crabs, sea anemones and a huge variety of fish
- Feel the adrenalin rush of a high-speed Rib Ride
- Try coasteering, one of the UK’s fastest-growing adventure sports outdoors. You can jump, scramble and go wild swimming during your Anglesey adventure holiday
- Practice other watersports including surfing, body boarding and kitesurfing from the bays and beaches on Anglesey
Get up close to nature on the rocks, cliffs and rivers
You can keep on dry land and have an equally exhilarating experience when you go coasteering, abseiling, or gorge scrambling on our island. People from all over the world visit Anglesey to face some of the best sea cliff climbs in the world or test their nerves during the 120-foot big abseil at Breakwater Country Park near Holyhead.
If you’re angling to get back in the water, then gorge scrambling at Afon Ddu (Black River) is a fun-packed adventure in a beautiful setting.
Walk up to South Stack Lighthouse
For far-reaching views and a close-up of some of Anglesey’s finest cliffs, walk across the steep stone stairway to visit South Stack and its lighthouse. Look out for the thousands of seabirds who live here including puffins, razorbills and guillemots.
Linger at the Dingle Nature Reserve
Another opportunity to get a close-up of nature is at the 10-hectare Dingle Local Nature Reserve. This ancient woodland divided by the Cefni river is teeming with wildlife such as woodpeckers, kingfishers, foxes, bats and dancing dragonflies. Spring is a fabulous time to visit as the floor is a carpet of wood anemones and bluebells.
Cross the Menai Bridge into North Wales
We recommend rounding off your day with a walk over Menai Bridge. The impressive Grade I listed suspension bridge designed by Thomas Telford has amazing views over the Menai Strait. You’ll also see the Britannia bridge built by famous railway engineer Robert Stephenson.
