Supporting Communities and Causes That Matter
At Anglesey Holiday Lettings (AHL), giving back has always been an integral part of who we are. While our fundraising efforts began long before, it was in 2021 that they truly took shape, marked by major challenges the Mont Blanc Challenge and the Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG) event. These early efforts laid the foundation for what would become an ongoing commitment to supporting charities close to our hearts. Through those events and the collective efforts of everyone involved, we began our support of the Royal Marines Association (RMA). This charity provides crucial assistance to veterans and their families, helping them adjust to life after service, offering emotional and financial support, and creating a strong sense of community.
In 2022, we shifted our focus to the Afghan Sports Trust, a charity that helps foster grassroots sports in Afghanistan. Jamie’s personal experiences during his deployments to Afghanistan gave him firsthand insight into the positive impact sport can have in challenging environments. By supporting AST, we’ve been able to contribute to projects that promote inclusivity and provide hope, offering opportunities for young people in Afghanistan to develop through sport, regardless of their background, beliefs, or gender. Our ongoing support of AST has been particularly meaningful as we continue to watch the long-term benefits of these programs unfold.
Alongside these efforts, we have also supported local initiatives, raising funds to enhance educational resources for schools in our community. In 2023, at the AHL Owner Mixer, we raised funds to help improve resources for local schools and sporting clubs such as Món Gymnastics.
Our biggest efforts in 2023 & 2024 saw Jamie & Barbs and the Green Yeti team take on the physically demanding Snowdon Black Diamond 24-Hour Ultra Marathon, an event that not only tested their endurance but also raised significant funds for the Royal Marines Association. Jamie & Barbs followed this up by participating in the Ring of Fire (Firelighter) Ultra Marathon.
Looking ahead to 2025, we’re thrilled to continue our fundraising journey with Jamie taking on the TCS London Marathon, supporting Alzheimer’s Research UK – a charity dedicated to advancing dementia research and developing solutions for treatment, diagnosis, and prevention. Dementia touches countless families, and by aiming to raise £5,000, we hope to contribute to breakthroughs that will ease the suffering it causes. Additionally, Jamie & Barbs will tackle the Snowdon Black Diamond 24-Hour Ultra Marathon and the newly formatted 208-kilometre Ring of Fire, both in support of Bowel Cancer UK, in loving memory of his dad.
In addition to the huge events, we’re also planning a Big Giveaway in the New Year to continue building momentum for our fundraising efforts, and we look forward to rallying our community around this exciting event.
As we look to the future, our commitment to these causes remains strong. It’s not just about the money raised – it’s about the people whose lives have been touched by these efforts.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey so far. Every contribution, no matter the size, has played a part in making a difference. We couldn’t have done this without you, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
