Llanddwyn Beach Voted Among the UK’s 50 Best Beaches
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Llanddwyn Beach on Anglesey has been voted among the UK’s 50 best beaches by The Times! Yes, you heard it right – our little slice of paradise has been given the royal treatment in the 16th edition of the Times and Sunday Times Best UK Beaches guide.
The Journey to Excellence
The Times team didn’t take this task lightly. They travelled a whopping 5,583 miles, visited 543 beaches, and sampled 17 chip suppers (tough job, but someone’s got to do it) to bring you the ultimate list of the nation’s top beaches. Despite battling some of the worst weather imaginable, their dedication shone through, and they managed to find the crème de la crème of British beaches.
Described as “magic” with a “fairytale backdrop,” Llanddwyn Beach truly stands out. Its charm reveals itself after a delightful walk through Newborough Forest on Anglesey’s south coast. This blue-flag beach offers stunning views across Eryri (Snowdonia) and the Llyn Peninsula, making it a picture-perfect spot for both relaxation and adventure.
Lights, Camera, Llanddwyn!
If you thought Llanddwyn looked familiar, you might have seen it in House of the Dragon Season 2, which was partly filmed right here in Wales. The tidal island with its lighthouse and the ruins of St Dwynwen’s church add to the mystical allure of the beach.
Fun fact: St Dwynwen is Wales’s answer to St Valentine, complete with a back story involving a frozen lover and a fish that can tell your romantic fortune. How’s that for a beach with character?
Llanddwyn offers three and a half miles of shell-littered sands and clear waters perfect for swimming. The beach is dog-friendly too, although pups are not allowed on the western section from May to September. And of course, the water quality is rated as excellent – only the best for our visitors!
